The hotel is nicely located opposite a park but the front road is quite busy so not great for light sleepers. Also, not exactly in the heart of the town. The rooms are very nice, given the colonial style but everything is super worn, from furniture to tiles, towels & linen. I personally did not mind but if you’re into more lavish things, it’s a no go.. However, what was truly annoying is the service and overall experience. I arrived late as my visit to Georgetown was a last-minute decision, I asked whether there was a room available for two nights. The receptionist requested a passport and amount of money and that was it, I checked in. Then next day, I wake up by loud bangs on my door yelling “room service”, I opened all puzzled and was told by a different employee that it was past the check-out time so I immediately had to leave the room and pay (!). I explained that I had the room for 2 nights and that his colleague had already collected the payment upon check-in but he told me what I paid was only the city tax (what?) and I had to pay the rest, cash only of course, and was charged late check out (!). His explanation for all this mess was that the other receptionist does not speak good english. Mistakes can happen but how they’re handled is what makes a difference. As it was not the customer’s fault, we could equally assume responsibility -maybe at least waive the late check out fee as a gesture for an apology- but oh no, I was basically kicked out for a mistake that was not mine :) With that many lovely accommodation options in Georgetown, I would not be surprised if they go out of business in no time

We booked this hotel via Booking.com using our credit card to secure the room On arrival, and after filling out the relevant forms we were asked for payment as expected, at this point they disclosed it was only cash and we could not use our credit cards. Even when we showed them the booking that had no mention of the cash only policy. So, it is now late in the day and they are the most unhelpful staff we have met during our current year long trip (that bad), they would not even give us access to the WiFi to arrange another room. After nearly 3 hours and constant calls to Booking.com we finally agreed no cancellation fee would apply despite it being the hotels mistake....they would not agree to the waiver of the fee until I would not leave. They even showed me an email their manager had sent to Booking.com showing this was a regular occurrence. There are many very good hotels in Georgetown...stay clear of this one. We moved to the Royale Chelung 10 minutes away... fantastic service by very helpful people... It may have been a nice hotel, however the management and staff do not care!!! STAY WELL CLEAR

An Experience with A Mixed Feeling

I think the management really need to work on customer service (front desk). I called to check if is it possible for me to perform early check in and I guess that the frontdesk didnt even really listen to my question properly before responding. Next, I arrived and about to check-in before I was told that the property only accepting cash. I knew there is a bank just nearby but do you know how inconvenience it is. Perhaps this info to be added in your property info to ease your guest. Being someone from customer service, I would say there is much more to improve in term of greetings, courtesy and body language. In term of facilities and amenities, all is satisfactory. The hotel design and strategic location are their selling point. With convenient store and Subway outlets, it helps if you need tp grab a quick meal. Note : a) If you travel with elderly, you may also request for a room at 1st floor (instead of 2nd floor) since the room is only accessible via staircase b) The rooftop is already closed for good. I have included to enjoy the sunset view in my list too. c) Please try the cafe next to the hotel as it is listed among the best cafe with a best coffee in town

We stayed here for our last night in Penang to be close to the ferry port as we were catching the 8.30 to Langkawi. The room was lovely and big the bathroom was amazing, especially in comparison to our last hotel Moustache Houze. The tiles on the stairs and reception are beautiful and it was nice to see they are preserving them in the rooms by covering them with wooden panels. They have exposed sections so you can see them. The only negative I have to say is that the windows are covered in almost a dull matt clear film do it's hard to see the view if the park opposite.

For Penang's standards, the rooms are ok and have all the facilities. Nicely located in front of the park. The room was clean but bathroom floor was quite dirty with hairs everywhere. Staff was very very nice but we still had to check out earlier than expected as the internet was working on and off and not at all in the room we were originally given, they had to change us room, but even so, didn't help much.
